EMFs: The Good and the Bad

About three months ago, in a moment of joy, I jumped in the air to celebrate returning to a normal routine after healing from a fractured tibia — and stumbled backwards, tripping over my cat, fracturing the L1 vertebrae of my spine. It has been that kind of year.

The severity of my fracture, thankfully, did not need surgical intervention, only time to heal and a program of modified activity. In my search for other avenues of recovery I came across PEMF (pulsed electromagnetic frequency) therapy. This therapy is part of a growing trend in vibrational medicine, one with a potential recognized by medical science.1 The following is from the National Institutes of Health:

Overall, PEMF promotes bone healing and joint preservation by augmenting the structural integrity of the bone and cartilage extracellular matrix, reducing inflammation, and enhancing repair…2

What are EMFs

An EMF is a magnetic field generated by the flow of electric charges. The earth has a huge emf generated by the movement of electrons from the molten iron and nickel in its core. The human body also has magnetic fields. Its processes rely on the flow of electrically charged particles with their associated magnetic fields. All of our organs have their own electrical activity: the heart has the largest emf field.
